Design Features

  • Footprint sized for use with a typical hospital bed and commode in a U.S. hospital room
  • Clear plastic walls and replaceable modular components compatible with decontamination and disposal methods
  • Integrated air intake filters and HEPA outflow filter attached to blower fan
  • Patient access via the HugSuit and lean-in windows at head and side of bed
  • Equipment access via conduit panel for wires and tubing
  • Airlock pass-throughs

  • Design Specification Requirements / Operational Airflow = Device shall perform at least 12 air exchanges per hour
  • Performance is ~20 air exchanges/hour
  • HEPA (99.97% particulates @ 0.3μ)
  • Access via conduit panel for wires and tubing

Model 1 In Action

Clinical simulation activities have been integral to the iterative design evolution of the ISTARI Model 1. Utilizing advanced simulation facilities at the UNMC Global Center for Health Security and engagement with Innovation Test Bed partner hospitals, diverse healthcare teams have provided valuable feedback to refine device features, optimize clinical and IPC utility, and improve patient safety and experience. A broad scope of medical interventions has been evaluated, including emergency and critical care procedures.

ISTARI is designed to allow for the full spectrum of clinical care and is compatible with all transmission-based precautions. The units are compatible with standard medical utilities in a hospital room. It can be used in existing hospital rooms or in temporary surge spaces with portable utilities. See it in action…
