XR Education & Virtual Consultation Videos

Virtual Consultation

  • The virtual consultation solution consists of a custom-built software that leverages 360-camera technology to create a comprehensive view and immersive experience for consulting experts. This live-streaming solution was refined to achieve low-latency, high-resolution video at a significantly reduced cost. The platform is designed to assess programs, not patients. Virtual consultations are managed via a webpage with scheduling capabilities.

    Virtual Consultation Demo 1

The video titled “Demo 1” shows the perspective of a consultation participant who is remote/virtual.

In this video, the remote participant:

    • Joins a consultation using a unique link provided ahead of time
    • Sets up their display name, camera, microphone/audio sources
    • can choose to turn on or off their personal camera and microphone (similar to a Zoom participant)
    • can click on their display screen to control what they see
    • can move the 360 camera, pan around the space, or zoom in or out as needed
      Virtual Consultation Demo 2

The video “Demo 2” shows the perspective of the administrative user who set up the consultation. This admin user has access to the physical 360 camera rig.

In this video, the admin user:

      • Turns on the 360 camera and mini-computer connected to the 360 camera
      • Starts the virtual consultation and begins broadcasting
      • Shows how to join the consultation from a laptop (the way a remote participant can)
      • Moves the 360 camera rig around the building to simulate a consultation

      XR Education

      • The XR Education modules are set in a small community hospital’s sterile processing department consisting of a single or two room with dirty, clean, and sterile areas. Learners can engage the education modules on different platforms including s a desktop computer, a mobile device or tablet, and Virtual Reality headset. The education can be led by an instructor in a group setting or completed by a single individual. Learning assessments are integrated into the modules.

      Novice Modules

The novice modules cover topics of Environment of Care, Personal Protective Equipment, and workflow Processes in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Learners will gain knowledge of processes and equipment used within the SPD.

      Decon room

This module is set in the decontamination area of a sterile processing department.

      Learning Objectives:

      • Increase the learner’s knowledge of personal protective equipment requirements for working in the decontamination department of sterile processing.
      • The learner will have an increased understanding in the required point of use decontamination and how to recognize the treated versus non treated instrumentation.
      • The learner will be able to describe methods to enhance cleaning and decontamination recommendations for equipment and devices when instruments are unfamiliar.
      • The learner will have a greater understanding of the various mechanisms for cleaning instruments.

Clean Room and Clean Room 2

For the next 2 modules, learners will explore the clean side of the sterile processing department.

      Learning Objectives:

      • Increase understanding of the personal protective equipment required within the clean side of sterile processing.
      • Increase ability to recognize environmental hazards within their department.
      • Increase knowledge in recognizing safety violations within sterile processing.

      Intermediate Module

The intermediate module overviews SPD equipment and quality control processes and procedures. Learners will gain confidence and knowledge in navigating SPD validation and verification procedures.

      Learning Objectives:

      • Verbalize a high-level overview on how to perform and evaluate the peel pack, paper-plastic pouches, or peel open pouches process for sterilization.
      • Describe the steps for verifying clean instruments and set assembly.
      • List the location of reference documents on recommendations for instrumentation processing.

      Advanced Module

The advanced module is the culmination of the novice and intermediate learnings. The learner will navigate a sentinel event with a reprocessing failure. The learner will follow an instrument set through the sterilization process and will recognize process gaps and failures.  For this advanced module, the learner returns to the Decon area.

      Learning Objectives:

      • Identify common areas where quality checks are performed to ensure all devices and instruments are appropriately
      • cleaned and disinfected
      • Gain a broad understanding of a complete instrument reprocessing process
      • Review policy, procedure and processes that limit the risk of a reprocessing failure
      • Increase understanding of the overall process of an SPD department and its workflow
