ISTARI Evaluation in Uganda

In 2022, UNMC partnered with the Makerere University Infectious Disease Institute to evaluate the utility of the ISTARI tent in distributed healthcare settings in Uganda, exploring use cases including early management of patients suspected of infection with a hemorrhagic fever virus. A workshop was held with IPC leaders to provide familiarization and hands-on experience with the ISTARI, delineate appropriate use scenarios in Ugandan health facilities, contextualize ISTARI use in case management and IPC workflows, develop a framework for site assessment and implementation readiness, and consider ongoing monitoring, assessment, and intervention tools. Workshop participants performed a comprehensive site assessment and mock deployment of the ISTARI at a local referral hospital.
